The outpatient detox treatment system is simply overwhelmed by the numbers and needs of the opioid dependent. Our outpatient detox care model uses Buprenorphine (suboxone), an opiate medication, approved for treatment of opioid dependence in 2002. The initial dose is given when the patient is in obvious withdrawal. Dose adjustments and supportive medications are used to control withdrawal and establish a maintenance dose. Length of treatment varies depending on the severity and duration of drug addiction and the recovery environment of the individual.
